The Sanctuary
Still Waters in a Storm is a reading and writing sanctuary in the volatile, big-hearted neighborhood of Bushwick, Brooklyn, a one-room schoolhouse where all ages and backgrounds come together, a neighborhood within the neighborhood, a Random Family.
We began as a grassroots alliance of Bushwick residents who needed someone to listen.
Now we offer homeschooling, tutoring, homework help, and classes in music, yoga, art, French, drama and photography, all free to children in Bushwick.
This fall, we officially become a co-op school. Families are pooling their resources to offer their children a personal, surpassing education.
