My trip to Still Waters was a gift. What I thought would be a Saturday afternoon reading for children in Bushwick quickly became something much bigger: a reminder, for me, of the universal desire that underpins writing, reading, and community. Stephen Haff and his students have built a rare space, one that honors everyone’s desire to be understood, and, most importantly, values the act of listening.
